You did not watch Emily in Paris during the last week or the weekend? Well maybe you live under a rock.

This newly aired Netflix series caused many discussions, for me personally, online and offline. But why is that the case?

In a nutshell, the story is about Emily, a girl from Chicago, PR and social media expert who is send off to Paris to work in PR agency.
The show is about work, love, cultural differences, relationships, fashion, Americans, as well as French.

And maybe mostly: about cliches.

One of the biggest elephants from the start on was that Emily could not talk in french. And she expected the other people to talk in English with her.

Or is it just appropriate for everyone to talk in English because it truly is a world language? But do you have to talk in English when you are in France, you are French, your language is French and there comes a girl who is not French but determines the language everyone has to settle on? Nobody knows!

There are loads of cliches that make an appearance throughout the whole series, that may be typical french but also make you roll your eyes:

Wether it be Emilys love for croissants, never ending berets, Cafe de Fleur, the Eiffletower or showing up at work for 11 am.

The question I asked my self most of the time? But is it true?

Well I do not know the answer for that but maybe we already have it when we take a look on the controversy this series caused online.

People bashing each other on social media, even doing entire reviews for huge online magazines and print media. As exaggerated as this whole series is, there might be a touch of truth…
